Our Story
Here at Caribou Coffee, we believe this to be true: that if passion, hard work and excellence go into an endeavor, the outcome will be a quality experience, and therefore rewarding.
In 1990, during an adventure through the Alaskan wilderness, our founders journeyed to the top of Sable Mountain. After a strenuous climb, they reached the summit and were rewarded with a sensational view: the boundless mountains, a clear blue sky, and a herd of caribou thundering through the valley. That was truly the "aha" moment.
The breathtaking panoramic view became the entrepreneurial vision for Caribou Coffee - a company that believes excellence is a product of hard work, and that life is too short for anything else. This vision serves as a guide as we strive to create a special experience for you here at Caribou Coffee.
Now, we invite you as our guest along this path. Enjoy a moment, or several, filled with the highest-quality coffee and our unparalleled service. |

About Us
All You Need Is Love. I can tell you when I fell in love.
It was November 22, 1978. I was a foreign exchange student in Costa Rica, and it was on that day that I picked my first coffee beans in the mountainous, coffee-growing region around the Poás volcano. You can't make sense out of falling in love. It just happens. I fell in love – with the country, the people, and the coffee. Especially the coffee.

About Us
Just as coffee has a rich history, so does S&D Coffee. In 1927, just before the Great Depression, J. Roy Davis, Sr. and Lawrence Switzer created a company to provide fresh roasted coffee to local and regional grocery stores. As the company grew, they learned about buying the raw beans, the intricacies of different roasting processes and, especially, the simple but deep pleasure that a quality cup of coffee can bring.

Coffee Bean Intl’s founders got their passionate start in a small Oregon town, where they were fanatically roasting beans for neighbors, friends and themselves. But they didn't stay small town for long. During the intervening decades, Coffee Bean Intl has grown from a small two-man storefront into one of the nation’s largest and most respected wholesale specialty coffee roasters, well known for its traditional artisan approach to roasting. We were one of the first roasters in the nation to promote dark roasts, develop flavored coffees, and offer certified organic and certified fair trade coffees.

A Vision of Fairness to Farmers
Fairness to farmers. A closer connection between people and the farmers we all rely on.
This was the essence of the vision that the three Equal Exchange founders — Rink Dickinson, Jonathan Rosenthal, and Michael Rozyne — held in their minds and hearts as they stood together on a metaphorical cliff back in 1986.
The three, who had met each other as managers at a New England food co-op, were part of a movement to transform the relationship between the public and food producers. At the time, however, these efforts didn’t extend to farmers outside of the U.S.
