All You Need Is Love. I can tell you when I fell in love.

It was November 22, 1978. I was a foreign exchange student in Costa Rica, and it was on that day that I picked my first coffee beans in the mountainous, coffee-growing region around the Poás volcano. You can't make sense out of falling in love. It just happens. I fell in love – with the country, the people, and the coffee. Especially the coffee.

Fifteen years later my passion for great coffee could no longer be denied. So I founded The Roasterie in my basement in one of Kansas City's great neighborhoods – Brookside. Roasting coffee in your basement is a great way to meet your neighbors – and make friends. I did both, and discovered lots of people loved the way I roasted coffee. Shared love. What a concept for a business.

To this day, nobody else does it like we do. We've always supported the world's small, specialty farmers and their communities, which is why we get first chance at the world's best beans. And now we've opened a coffee house back in Brookside, because we still love helping people learn more about things that make them happy. In our case, coffee.

Quality, freshness, education. That's what The Roasterie is about. Try any of our coffees and you'll be able to taste and smell the difference our commitment makes. But then again, would you expect anything less from people who are in love with what they do?
